Half way there!

Howdy y’all!

I’m here to update y’all about the end of my semester!

I’M HALF WAY DONE WITH MY BACHELOR’S DEGREE!

On a more serious note, as I’ve said before, I was only enrolled in ten hours this semester because I was in between switching my major to Allied Health from Biology. I dropped the biology classes I was registered for and registered for health classes that non-health majors could take just so I wouldn’t be taking useless classes that wouldn’t count towards the degree I intend to graduate with.

Anywho, enough of the technical side of it. I was so close to a 4.0 this semester! I managed to kick butt in Ochem II and I got an A! That’s my first A in a science so I’m pretty pumped about that and for it to be in Ochem is just amazing to me. I also got an A in both of my health classes that I took but the one B that I got was in Ochem lab! how ridiculous. Instead of a 4.0 this semester, I got a freaking 3.9 and wasn’t named to the Dean’s list. I’m going to go for it again next semester but we’ll see what Biochem holds for me..

So in the end, I achieved a 3.9 this semester which boosts my overall GPA up to a 3.4! How exciting! I know that I’m not the perfect med school applicant now but every since my first semester here, my GPA has been improving and I don’t intend to stop now. I will get my GPA up above a 3.5 and I will get into med school. You just wait and see!

In other news, I started working at the Office of Professional School Advising at A&M. I love it a lot and I love the people I work with. I think I’m acclimating very well! I think it’s a good place for me to be since they’ll be the ones to look over my med school app before I actually turn it in! Bath and Body Works called me to schedule and interview two month after I applied there but I don’t need them anymore since I’ve got OPSA! On my first paycheck, I have accumulated over 40 hours! Whoop!

Summer time is over and now it’s time to get back down to business. I’m taking a summer course at A&M. The first half of Anatomy and Physiology. Here at A&M, this course is killer.. I’ve planned to take it in the summer so that I can focus all of my attention on that one class. I hope I can pull a fantastic grade in this class since I’m counting it as one of my upper level biology classes for med school.

word 1Switching gears real quick. I just wanted to thank all the men and women who have sacrificed their lives to protect our freedom here in the United States. My grandpa and his twin brother both fought in WWII and this is a picture of both of them and my grandpa’s flag from his funeral. My heart goes out to all of the families who not just throw parties on Memorial day, but the families who get together on this day to remember the ones they have lost while serving our country.

In closing, I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day and you actually thought about what the holiday means. Have a great rest of your week!

Thanks and Gig’em,

Curve balls

Howdy y’all!

It has been a week, that’s for sure.. I had my fourth ochem test this week and it definitely was not an easy one. There were a lot of curve balls on the exam and I studied a lot for this test and I really felt like I was prepared. The thing that makes me mad was it was the stuff that was supposed to be a breeze. The ones that I thought were going to be really hard, I didn’t do bad on at all. I think I got full credit on those actually. I’m nervous to get the grade back and hopefully, I can maintain my goal of an A! Fingers crossed!

Also, some other big news that happened this week. When I went to go start making my schedule for next semester and looking at summer courses since I’m taking anatomy this summer, I realized something. My anatomy course that I’m taking, which is 10 weeks long, doesn’t end until the week of my mission trip to Haiti. I talked to my advisor about it and I’ve made the decision to postpone our mission trip until a later date when it doesn’t conflict with our schedules or classes. It made me very sad to come to this conclusion, but I don’t think it would be a good idea to forgo my anatomy class just because of three days that I wouldn’t be able to attend the class. Plus, I need to get anatomy out of my way so I can continue with my degree plan.

That’s all the news I have for y’all right now. When I get my ochem grade back, I’m sure I’ll be back. To either be happy, or sad. We’ll see.

Thanks and Gig’em,

Lots of explainin to do!

Howdy y’all!

I say this every time but I know I haven’t blogged in a while. And I have some updating to do! Since the last time I updated, a lot of stuff has happened! I’ve joined CARPOOL and worked two nights so far and my third night is this Thursday! Wrackin up those hours, that’s for sure!

In other big news! I got an 88 on my second Ochem test AND A 94 ON MY THIRD OCHEM TEST. This makes my test average an A (Because in Krish’s class, an 88 is an A). So an A in Ochem is possible! I just have to work really hard with my fourth test and not do terrible on the final! As you can see below, I was just a tad bit excited 😉

ochem

I haven’t been able to shadow at all this semester because of some complications with the Doctor I had connections with but I’m still trying to get in touch with him and work some stuff out. Maybe I’ll be able to continue that this summer. We’ll see.

Alsoooo, I am now, officially, an Allied Health major! I think this will be good for me because hopefully I can get my GPA to where it needs to be when apps roll around. My OPSA advisor told me to major in my back up plan so that’s what I’m doing. If med school is tangible for me when I get there, I need to have a back up plan and that is why I am majoring in health rather than biology because I don’t want to be doing research for the rest of my life :/ So I’m excited to get registered and what not.

Speaking of OPSA (Office of Professional school advising) advisor, my advisor and I are pretty close and she emailed me this morning and asked me if I wanted a job during the summer in the OPSA office. I applied at bath and body works but they haven’t called me back yet and I think working in the OPSA office will be better for me anyways because I’ll have the greatest resources at my finger tips! and they’re only open Mon-Fri so my weekends won’t be taken up! In addition to having this job, I’m also going to be taking Anatomy over the summer, so that will be… Time consuming. Hopefully, it all works out for the best!

And to wrap things up, I’m still raising money for my medical mission trip to Haiti! If you could PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE share my link with your friends, that would be AMAZING! If I could just reach 2500 people and they could spare me a dollar, I will have reached my goal! I’ve provided the link down below! Just copy and paste it to whoever you share it with! I’m so appreciative of all the donations I’ve already received, you have no idea how much they mean to me!

There is hope!

I have some news!

Remember how I told y’all about the organization, CARPOOL? I interviewed for it last Wednesday and they finally emailed me back to tell me that I can join! Woohoo! I got pretty nervous during my interview because they told me that 180 people applied but they were only accepted 80-100. Because of my past experiences here at A&M and not getting anything I interview for, I was pretty discouraged with those numbers but I got it! CARPOOL will count as extracurricular and community service hours. Score for my med school application! I know I’ve said this before, but I feel like everything is slowly falling into place. I’m really happy about that. Now all I need to do this semester is get a 4.0 and everything will be lovely! speaking of, I got an 84 on my first ochem test of the semester. That’s 16 points higher than my first test last semester so maybe that’s a sign! I just need to make A’s on everything else and I got this!

Also, I am still raising money for my Medical Mission Trip to Haiti this summer! If you can donate anything(Even a dollar!), it would be SUPER DUPER EXTREMELY appreciated. Don’t forget to share it with your friends! So far, I have managed to gather $170. Now just $630 more until I can buy my plane ticket! Woohoo! The link is below!

Fundraising!

Howdy guys!

To go on this mission trip to Haiti, it’s going to cost around $2000-$2500! That’s a lot of money for a broke little college student! I’ve set up a gofundme account just in case anyone wants to donate to the cause! Any little bit is greatly appreciated and I’m already super thankful for any help I can get! Thank you so much for following this breaking news in my life! lol. I hope you have a fabulous day.

(Ecstaticness!)

Howdy y’all!

I have some news!

I don’t remember if I told y’all, and quite frankly, I am too lazy to go look due to the fact my brain is mush right now. I got an interview for the organization I applied to called CARPOOL. CARPOOL provides free rides home from anywhere in College Station so people don’t drive when they shouldn’t be driving if you know what I mean. Anywho, I hope it goes well. Then today, I got an email saying that I’m going to Haiti! How exciting! This will be my first time out of the country and I’ll be getting to do amazing things there! I can’t wait!

In other news, I had an Ochem test today (that is why my brain is mush). I’ve been up since 7 so I only got 6 hours of sleep which is enough but I’m hitting my wall. Cameron has his first Biology test tomorrow and he’s in the annex studying while I’m in the SCC playing on the computer because I literally don’t have anything to do since I’ve finished my quizzes for next week for my online classes, I don’t have OWLs because I had a test today and I’ve already done my pre lab quizzes and write ups for this week. I feel so accomplished and it’s only Tuesday! Tonight, I went to a pre-med meeting where the speaker was about thirty minutes late and we had the option to leave, but me and my friend, Jael, decided to stay. And oh man, it was such a good decision to stay! The speaker was a doctor who didn’t have quite the best start in his life but now, he’s a doctor! How amazing is that! On top of that, his personality was amazing and he had us laughing the entire time. He’s also a motivational speaker. HOW MUCH BETTER OF A PERSON COULD SOMEONE BE?! Jeeez. He is definitely someone I aspire to be one day. He also has an MCAT prep program that I’m considering since I should have already been getting ready for that. It costs $1500 which is, surprisingly, the cheapest course that I’ve seen and they’ll even pay for your test admission. Anyways. It’s definitely something I’ve got to check out!

Also! This week is the Fifty Shades of Grey premiere and I am SUPER PUMPED! Maria and Katherine are coming into town and I’m excited to see them. It should be a good weekend also considering it is Valentine’s! Woooo!

I feel like I’ve said a lot so I’m going to leave it at that and hopefully leave soon because I am tired. I hope you have a great rest of the week and don’t forget to stay positive!

Thanks and Gig’em,

Haiti, here we come! (Hopefully)

Howdy y’all!

I’m here to update you on the medical mission trip idea. After the ECHO meeting, Cameron and I decided to apply for the medical mission trip to Haiti. The lady in charge told me she would be doing acceptances all week so we should hear back by the end of the week if we get to go! How stinking exciting! I’m excited to see medicine in a third world country just to get a perspective of how different it is there from here. I’m sure it will be a huge eye opener and when I get back, I’ll appreciate everything I have a lot more.

Anywho, it’s going to cost about $2000 to go on this trip and I want to try to raise most of the money myself. I’m not really sure how, so if you have ideas, let me know! I’m also open to any donations your little heart desires to give to me and my aspiring dreams of becoming a doctor. 😉

I’ll leave it at that and give me ideas! I was really good at fundraising in high school but I’m not sure how to do that here in College Station.

Thanks and Gig’em,
